The Girl Next Door- Chapter 5 by *kataang13:iconkataang13:

Kagome was in front of the mirror, brushing her hair.  Little did she know a certain half demon was watching her every move.  The only way Kagome did realize it was when she saw him in the mirror, sitting like he always did.  She put her hair brush down and turned to face Inuyasha.  She put her hand on her hip which pulled Inuyasha out of his trance.
“Would you mind explaining why you’re looking at me like I’m a science experiment?” asked Kagome in a slightly annoyed tone.
“Wha-?  What are you talking about?  I wasn’t looking at you, so don’t get excited,” replied Inuyasha in a huff as he turned his head away to hide the slight tint of pink on his face.
Kagome sighed and turned around back to the mirror.  She slipped a hair behind her ear and then went on to her make up.
“Why the hell are you getting so worked up about your looks anyway?  Jeez, it’s just a party.  What, are you doing this for that ‘secret admirer’ of yours?” he asked in a suspicious tone.
As soon as Inuyasha got that sentence out, Kagome smirked.
“What are you so happy about?” asked Inuyasha, still waiting for an answer to his other questions as well.
“Oh nothing…”replied Kagome.  “I just can’t believe that I didn’t see it before…now I know why you’re so moody.”
“What are you saying?  I am NOT being moody he replied in a frustrated way.
It took him a bit, but once Kagome’s statement sunk in, he was very angry.
“Hey, I’m not jealous if THAT’S what you’re thinking!” he exclaimed.
Kagome just sighed in response.  She was used to Inuyasha’s jealousy by now.  She had to deal with it whenever Koga came around, and even once with Hojo!
Kagome finished putting on a bit of makeup and stood up.  She then took one last look in the mirror and went downstairs, Inuyasha following hastily after her.
“Mom, I’m ready to go!” called Kagome to her mother.
A few seconds later, her mom came into the room, wearing a green kimono.
“Ok, you look very pretty Kagome,” commented Kagome’s mom with a kind smile.
“Thanks mom,” replied Kagome.  “So, we should get going, huh?” she asked, eager to get to the party.
“Yes,” replied Kagome’s mom.  “Grandpa and Souta are going to go see a soccer game, so they won’t be joining us.”
“Oh, alright,” replied Kagome to her mother’s statement.
Kagome’s mom walked out the door and began walking down the stairs of the shrine.  Kagome grabbed the hat that she usually let Inuyasha wear and placed it on his head as she took hold of his sleeve and pulled him along to catch up to her mom.
“Hey, quit pullin’!” shouted Inuyasha as he yanked his sleeve away.
“Then come on!” replied Kagome equally as loud.

When they arrived at the party, they were all very impressed and in awe by the décor.  Everyone except Inuyasha that is, who kept the same “I wish I weren’t here right now look” on his face.
As they all walked into the party, Kagome’s mother went off to mingle with the new neighbors.  Seeing her mother leave, Kagome decided to sit down.  Inuyasha decided to stay standing next to her.  Kagome was beginning to get bored, partially because it was mostly adults, and partially because Inuyasha refused to talk.  He just stood there with his arms crossed, looking angry at nothing in particular.  Just when Kagome was about to ask if she could head home early, she heard a familiar voice…
“Hey, Kagome!”
Kagome turned to face who was calling to her.
“Hojo?” she asked as he came and stood in front of her smiling.
“Hello Kagome.  How have you been?  I’m surprised to see you here, considering your hepatitis,” said Hojo in a concerned tone.
“Uh, yeah.  I’m fine,” replied Kagome as she reminded herself to tell Gramps about some sicknesses that are realistic.
Inuyasha glared at Hojo and quietly growled.
“So Kagome, would you like to dance?” asked Hojo.
Inuyasha’s eyes widened as she clenched his teeth and his growls got louder.
Hojo looked at Inuyasha in a curious way.
“Is something wrong?” he asked.
Inuyasha didn’t reply but took a step forward threateningly.
“Inuyasha, relax,” ordered Kagome to Inuyasha.
“Uh, maybe this is a bad time,” said Hojo as he backed up.  “I’ll see you at school,” he added as he walked hastily away.
As soon as he left, Inuyasha stepped back and relaxed more.
“Inuyasha, what is your problem?” asked Kagome, even though she pretty much knew that answer.  “He just wanted to dance!  Jeez!”
“Feh, yeah right,” he replied in a huff.
Kagome gave up on trying to get Inuyasha to admit he was jealous and just sat back and listened to the music.

As the party was winding down, Kagome began to get a bit hungry, so she went over to the food table, of course with Inuyasha following close.  As she was getting food, she felt a tug on her kimono sleeve.  Kagome looked down and saw a little boy.
“Oh, hello little boy, do you need help with something?” asked Kagome.
“Hi, my name is Taki, you sure are pretty Kagome!” said the little boy.
“Huh?  You know my name?” she asked.
“Yeah,” he replied, “I’m the one that sent you the flowers!” he replied with a smile ear to ear.
Both Kagome and Inuyasha’s jaws dropped.
Just as Kagome was about to say something else, a woman called Taki’s name, and he was off in a matter of seconds.  He waved goodbye to Kagome as he ran.
Inuyasha couldn’t move.  He was that stunned, and Kagome wasn’t much better.
Kagome looked at Inuyasha and smiled, realizing how foolish that they had both acted.  Inuyasha slightly smiled back, then quickly looked away, trying to hide his face which was tinted with a light blush.
Just as Kagome looked over, she saw her mom, and she was walking back over to Kagome.  When she arrived, Kagome smiled at her, and she smiled back.
“Hello Kagome, did you have a good time?” asked her mother.
“Yep, we had a great time,” replied Kagome as she thought of everything.
Kagome’s mother smiled in response.
“Oh!  Here, I want to get a picture of you two together!” said Kagome’s mother as she pulled out her camera.
“Ok,” replied Kagome as she stood next to Inuyasha.
“Here,” said Kagome’s mother as she gave Inuyasha a fan.  “Hold that up,” she requested as she positioned the camera.
All and all, the night was pretty nice.  So, during the picture, Inuyasha actually had a reason to smile.
“Say cheese,” said Kagome’s mom.
“Wait mom,” requested Kagome as she reached up and took Inuyasha’s hat off.  Nobody else was looking, so it was ok.
Kagome’s mother smiled and finally took the picture.  After that, they left the party.

When they got back to the house, Kagome’s mother went right away to go change, while Kagome went right away to her room, and Inuyasha followed her.
Kagome opened her door and walked into her room hastily and bent down and reached under her bed and pulled out a book-like item.
“What’s that?” asked Inuyasha curiously.
“It’s a scrap book,” she replied with a smile as she opened it and placed the picture of her and Inuyasha in it.  Inuyasha walked over and looked at it and a small smile went across his face.  They both knew they would remember not only that night, but everything that happened to lead up to it.
